LCA of CO2 Utilization Postdoc Position at CSS U Michigan

The Center for Sustainable Systems seeks applicants for a one-year postdoctoral research position focusing on life cycle assessment (LCA) of CO2 utilization in commercial products. This position is part of the University of Michigan’s Global CO2 Initiative, and the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting life cycle assessment of products using CO2 as a feedstock and refining a framework for standardized LCA of CO2 utilization in products. The postdoc will be mentored by Professors Greg Keoleian and Shelie Miller and collaborate with a large coalition of academic and industry partners.

The Center for Sustainable Systems (CSS) is a research center in the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan. CSS develops and applies life cycle and systems analysis methods, models, and metrics for advancing sustainable futures. With six core faculty, three research staff, and over 50 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, CSS is a vibrant research community engaged in interdisciplinary research to support the sustainable design, assessment, and management of society’s systems (energy, urban and built environment, mobility, food, and water). CSS has pioneered new methods in life cycle analysis, design, and optimization and has led over 200 research projects focused on a wide range of topics ( Notable recent projects include maximizing the environmental benefits of autonomous vehicles, the impact of dietary habits on greenhouse gas emissions, optimal replacement of lighting, inequity in access to energy-efficient lighting, comparative assessment emissions from shale gas and coal as electricity source fuels, and a greenhouse gas inventory for the City of Detroit.

Applicants must have experience conducting LCA and a Ph.D. in engineering or another relevant field.  Prior experience with economic modeling, such as techno-economic analysis (TEA) and/or process modeling is useful but not required.
