Summary:
This study explored whether vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (VTOLs), or “flying cars” can shorten commute time and play a role in sustainable mobility. Primary energy and greenhouse gas emissions from a single-occupant electric VTOL were compared to single-occupant gasoline and battery electric ground-based cars. Fully loaded VTOL taxis (three passengers and a piliot) were also compared to average occupancy ground-based cars (1.54 passengers).
