Twice a month in the summer CSS researchers will get together and discuss a journal article relevant to sustainable systems.  In addition to being intellectually stimulating, it will give us a great opportunity to chat and connect with each other. While the paper we discuss may not always be exactly in your research area, our diverse experience and input will lead to a vibrant discussion of the topic.

On May 24 we will discuss the Environmental Science & Technology January 2012 article:  "Sustainability and Energy Development: Influences of Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Options on Water Use in Energy Production" by D. Craig Cooper and Gerald Sehlke.  It addresses the water-energy nexus, and how proposed climate mitigation options may have negative consequences on the water cycle. Many of you are familiar with the "Wedge Game" that is intended to spur debate about what climate mitigation options are most appropriate to achieve climate stability.  This article seeks to show how each of the "wedges" will impact global water use.  Although it isn't necessary background to understand the article, you can read about the Wedge Game here:  http://cmi.princeton.edu/wedges/game.php

Bring your lunch and join the discussion!
