Michael Delaney, Executive Director, Regulatory Affairs & Policy for Consumers Energy (one of the two largest utilities in MI), will be leading a discussion in EAS 615 on 3/12, 10-11:20 AM, entitled 'Navigating the Energy Transition'. His bio is detailed at the end of this note. Mike wants to make his time interactive and case-based. Specifically, he wishes to touch upon two key items:

1. Consumers Energy has to file a new distributed generation (DG) tariff with their next electric rate case. The audience will help Mike design Consumers Energy’s new DG tariff. Please skim the MPSC DG Tariff Order and also pages 848-870 of the Rate Case summary of DTE’s DG Tariff proposal;
2. Utilities across the country are thinking about transitions in the space and what it means for the existing business and future growth. Mike wants to ask the audience to help him think through options the company has for continued business growth.

This is a great opportunity to have real-world impact, build an important connection, and ask hard questions.

Bio: Michael Delaney is the Executive Director of Regulatory Affairs & Policy for Consumers Energy. In this role, he leads the development and successful advancement of the Company’s positions on major regulatory filings and policy issues. Michael joined Consumers Energy in 2016. Before joining Consumers Energy, Michael worked at DTE Energy (2006-2016), serving in a range of roles in Corporate Strategy, Venture Capital, and Government Affairs. He was recognized as part of Crain Detroit Business’ “40 under 40” class of 2010, is an alumnus of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Michigan Program and a former member of the Ann Arbor Energy Commission. Michael has a Bachelor’s in Engineering Physics and a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of Michigan as well as a master’s in Nuclear Engineering from M.I.T.
