Many businesses and organizations are involved in initiatives to collect and interpret data that spans the entire life cycle of products and processes.  In addition, current trends in information technology management have the potential to alter the scope of what can be done with life cycle information, either by reducing the cost of collecting, managing and using data, or by increasing the value of that data.

This meeting invites discussion of individual views on exploring these and other trends that will influence the future of life cycle approaches .  Topics will include discussion of the evolving life cycle landscape and identification of strategic ways to increase the effectiveness of life cycle thinking in improving human health and environmental sustainability. Participants should come with specific ideas relating to improvement or greater use of:

   Input/output models,

   Life cycle inventory data,

   Life cycle impact assessment,

Life cycle thinking for hazard/risk/alternatives assessments, and

Innovative holistic ways to evaluate & substantially reduce the impacts of production and consumption (e.g. ecosystem service evaluation, ecological footprint, water-footprinting, thermodynamic methods, etc.).

We are particularly interested in your individual suggestions for how life cycle based environmental information can be made more useful for decision-making, opportunities to work together to advance the field, and unique roles that EPA could play in the near term and in the longer term to facilitate transformative changes to life cycle knowledge management.
