3M Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Industrial Ecology

Industrial Ecology is an interdisciplinary field that addresses the interactions between industrial systems, natural systems, and human needs that are impacting the planet’s life support system. These interactions are governed by complex sets of technical, environ-mental, economic, social, and ethical issues. 3M, through its employees at all levels, has recognized the critical importance of understanding these issues, and collaborating with multiple and diverse stakeholders in order to achieve systems that meet human needs in a more sustainable manner. This award was established in 1999 to honor the memory of Thomas W. Zosel, Manager of Environmental Initiatives for 3M Corporation. Mr. Zosel was instrumental in launching the Center for Sustainable Systems at the University of Michigan. This award consists of a certificate, a $1,000 award to the recipient, and the recipient’s name on the plaque displayed in the Dana Building.
