Using seven established course design principles for effective service-learning, this chapter discusses the lessons learned in teaching the three E's of sustainability: environmental; economic; and (social) equity, in a professional program at an American Midwestern public university.

In January 2016 Dr. Ming Xu became the recipient of a 5-year CAREER: Computational Approaches for Life Cycle Inventory Database grant from the National Science Foundation. The grant will fund research to develop a faster, less expensive method of generating Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data. The research will 1.) Create a framework for modeling and analyzing LCI networks; 2.) Develop computational models for estimating missing LCI data; and 3.) Apply these models to evaluate LCI data quality and predict LCI data for emerging technologies.
