Ford Poling: Life Cycle Assessment of Automated Vehicle Sensors
Two key elements need to be considered when evaluating the sustainability performance of autonomous vehicles relative to non-autonomous vehicles:
1) the differences in vehicle production burdens, and
2) the differences in vehicle operation (including efficiency and demand effects).
This project will quantify the environmental impact (i.e., total energy consumption and GHG emissions) associated with the production of autonomous vehicles sensors, and then compare these results to estimated impacts of AVs during the use phase.
