LCA of EV Battery

 -

The proposed life cycle assessment (LCA) seeks to elucidate key parameters across the battery supply chain, from mineral extraction and processing to manufacturing, and material recovery at vehicle end-of-life management.  The project team has focused its investigation on lithium, graphite and nickel. This research is motivated by the interest to shift toward domestic sourcing of battery materials and other EV critical materials such as Rare Earth Elements. The team is characterizing North American critical mineral deposits and evaluating the adequacy of the supply base to meet demand as well as the greenhouse gas implications in shifting from foreign to domestic sourcing.
