Large Scale Solar Photovoltaic Demonstration Project at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor

 -

This project addresses the general lack of understanding about the benefits of large-scale photovoltaic systems by the general public.  Therefore, the design, installation and operation of a 34kW Photovoltaic (PV) array on the Ann Arbor campus of the University of Michigan is proposed for stimulating public awareness and enhancing educational programs about renewable energy resources.   The proposed PV system would be located on the roof of the Samuel T. Dana Building for School of Natural Resources and Environment.  This highly accessible location, visible by pedestrians walking on the campus “Diag”, is ideal for showcasing this important technology.  The system will be fully instrumented for data collection to provide information about the PV system and its benefits to students, faculty and the general public via the Internet.  The PV system would also be highlighted in the annual University of Michigan Energy Conservation Fair in September with visual displays at various locations on campus and printed information handouts also made available to the general public.
